Our Story

Two Generations. One Standard.

Starting Out

My dad started Hoffman Cooling & Heating in 1981 with a cargo van, a box of business cards, and a standard for the work he wouldn’t compromise. He walked the streets of Fairfax introducing himself to homeowners and businesses, one by one, until the calls started coming in.

Learning the Trade

I grew up in the passenger seat of that van. School breaks, days off — I was riding along, watching him work, learning what it means to do the job right. When I was old enough, I stopped just riding along and started working beside him — not as the owner’s son, but as someone who had to prove himself. I earned my stripes squeezing through dirty crawlspaces, flushing sludge out of multifamily units, and sweating through 140-degree attics in the Valley. My dad didn’t lower the bar for me. He made me climb over it.

Taking the Lead

Today, I run Hoffman Cooling & Heating, carrying forward what my dad built.

As both a C-20 HVAC contractor and a licensed general contractor, I understand how an HVAC system fits into the rest of the home or building. When the job calls for it, I look beyond the equipment and evaluate the structural, electrical, and plumbing systems that affect its installation and performance.

Passing It On

My dad’s retired now, but not really. We still talk shop all the time — about the work, the craft, and the company he built. You can’t get 45 years of hands-on HVAC experience in a classroom, and his perspective still shapes how I approach the work today.

I’ve got two young sons of my own now. Someday, they’ll ride along with me. And when they do, I’ll teach them the same things my dad taught me: Be honest. Do the job right. Take pride in the work.

That’s who we were in 1981. That’s who we are today.
